Navigating Predominantly White Institutions as a Black Student

The Problem

Some often take for granted the privilege of representation. Black students in Predominantly White institutions spend so much time and energy struggling to learn how to fit in that real learning can often take a backseat. When we aren’t exposed to others who look like us, such as models and leaders, there are often detrimental internalizations we develop about our identity.

The AFRO Foundation strives to mitigate the stress, uncertainty, and challenges of being the only Black student in the classroom by offering insights and solutions on the issue. By understanding the indirect effects of underrepresentation and looking into actionable solutions, we can help Black families better navigate the PWI experience and inform institutions of a perspective they may often overlook.
